Nephrology – English Division (Year 6)
Welcome to the Nephrology course conducted by the Department of Transplantology, Immunology, Nephrology and Internal Diseases, Medical University of Warsaw.
The course consists of interactive seminars and bedside clinical teaching in the nephrology ward and outpatient clinic. Its aim is to provide students with practical knowledge and clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of kidney diseases, based on current evidence and international clinical practice guidelines.
Course organization
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. unless otherwise indicated in the timetable. Students are required to wear a white lab coat, medical shoes, carry a stethoscope and present a valid student ID card. Attendance at all scheduled classes is mandatory. Students should attend classes only with their assigned teaching group. Any change of group requires prior approval from the Course Coordinator. Missed classes must be completed before the end of the course.
During clinical teaching, students actively participate in patient assessment, interpretation of laboratory and imaging findings, clinical reasoning and discussion of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies under the supervision of academic staff.
Course content
The course covers the diagnosis and management of the most important kidney diseases encountered in clinical practice, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, glomerular diseases, tubulointerstitial disorders, urinary tract infections, nephrolithiasis, electrolyte and acid–base disorders, hypertension in kidney disease, renal replacement therapy and kidney transplantation.
Teaching is based on current KDIGO, ERA and other international recommendations, with particular emphasis on evidence-based medicine and practical clinical decision-making.
Assessment
Successful completion of the course requires regular attendance, active participation in seminars and clinical classes, and passing the final multiple-choice examination according to the current syllabus.
